Ι What Are Zinc Plated Magnets (Zn)?
Zinc plating is the standard cost-effective surface treatment for sintered Neodymium magnets, commonly recognized in the industry for its blue-white finish. This process involves the electrolytic deposition of a thin Zinc layer, which functions as a sacrificial anode to protect the underlying magnet substrate from atmospheric moisture. This electroplating method ensures a uniform finish for large-scale manufacturing production runs.
To stabilize the surface, the metallic Zinc layer is treated with a chemical passivation step, which also establishes the final blue-white appearance. This secondary treatment adds a level of protection against initial corrosion while maintaining a typical coating thickness of 4-20μm. Such precision allows Zinc plated magnets to meet tight dimensional tolerances required for assemblies without altering the magnetic properties of the magnet substrate.
