What Are Ultrasonically Welded Magnets?
Ultrasonically welded magnets are plastic integrated magnetic components where permanent magnets or magnetic assemblies are placed into molded plastic parts and then retained or enclosed by ultrasonic welding of plastic features. The plastic parts are produced first, the magnetic components are assembled afterward, and the final retention is created by welding the surrounding plastic structure.
The magnets themselves are not welded. The ultrasonic welding process acts on the plastic structure around the magnets.
This method may use a plastic cover, housing, rib, edge, or retaining feature to hold the magnetic component in place after assembly. Compared with gluing, it does not rely mainly on adhesive bonding. Compared with simple press fitting, it can provide a more defined plastic retaining structure when the part design allows welding.
