Samarium Cobalt ring magnets are commonly magnetized axially or diametrically, similar to Neodymium ring magnets. Sintered SmCo ring magnets can also be produced with radial magnetization or diametrical multipole magnetization, although these remain much more specialized options.
Radial magnetization depends on radial orientation established before sintering. Radial orientation can also be used to realize diametrical multipole ring magnets. These products require dedicated molds and magnetizing fixtures, and their feasibility needs to be reviewed according to ring dimensions, grade, and the required magnetic pattern.
Samarium Cobalt ring magnets are hard and brittle, so assembly methods should avoid impact, bending, and concentrated mechanical loads. The central opening can simplify positioning around shafts or other cylindrical components, but it does not mean the magnets are suitable for direct press fitting. Interference fits, uneven clamping, or forced alignment may introduce local stress and cause chipping or cracking.
Clearance fits combined with adhesive bonding or mechanical retention are often more suitable. Housings, shoulders, end caps, or other supporting parts can help locate the ring magnets without placing excessive loads on the inner or outer diameter. Bonding surfaces and adhesive thickness should also be controlled so that the magnets remain evenly supported during curing and service.
The final magnetic result also depends on the surrounding components. Steel parts, installation gaps, and the position of the ring magnets can influence the magnetic path and the field available in the working area. For this reason, material grade, dimensions, magnetization direction, and assembly conditions should be considered together.
Samarium Cobalt ring magnets are generally produced according to customer drawings. The dimensions, grade, magnetization direction, working temperature, and assembly method should be reviewed together, as each of these factors can affect manufacturing feasibility and final magnetic performance.
Axially and diametrically magnetized rings are relatively conventional, while radial and diametrical multipole ring magnets require additional review. Ring dimensions, mold design, and magnetizing fixture capability can determine whether the required magnetization can be achieved. Dedicated molds and magnetizing fixtures may therefore be prerequisites for sampling and production.
If you are developing custom Samarium Cobalt ring magnets, drawings and application requirements can be provided for discussion. The review may cover material grade, dimensions, magnetization, working conditions, and the intended assembly method.
