What Are Press Fitted Magnets?
Press fitted magnets are plastic integrated magnetic components where permanent magnets are mechanically installed into or retained by molded plastic structures after the plastic parts have been produced. The magnets may be pressed into holes, slots, pockets, bosses, or carrier features, or retained between plastic parts through controlled interference or compression.
Unlike insert molding or overmolding, press fitting does not place the magnet into the mold before or during molding. Instead, the plastic part is molded first, and the magnet is assembled afterward. The magnet is held mainly by mechanical retention between the magnet and the plastic structure, rather than by adhesive or a molded outer layer.
This method is often used when the product design allows the magnet to be installed from one side of the plastic part or retained between plastic components during assembly.
