What Are Pot Magnets?
Pot magnets, also known as cup magnets or mounting magnets, are magnetic assemblies that consist of a permanent magnet housed inside a steel casing. The steel casing is typically shaped like a cup, which is why this type of assembly is commonly referred to as a pot magnet. Depending on the application requirements, the magnet inside can be made from Neodymium (NdFeB), ferrite, Samarium Cobalt (SmCo), or AlNiCo.
As a type of magnetic assembly, pot magnets are designed not only to protect the magnetic element from damage, but also to improve the efficiency of the magnetic circuit by concentrating the magnetic flux onto the working surface. This structural feature allows pot magnets to provide strong holding performance in a compact form, making them a practical choice for a wide range of holding, mounting, fixing, and clamping applications across different industries.
