How are AlNiCo magnets made? AlNiCo magnet can be manufactured by either casting or sintering process. The production process of AlNiCo magnets is determined by many factors such as magnetic properties, mechanical properties, weight, shape, tolerance, and output.
Cast AlNiCo magnets are manufactured by pouring a molten AlNiCo alloy into a resin bonded sand mold and then further processing it through various heat treatment cycle. The end product is a magnet with dark grey or black exterior with a roughened texture, but machined finish is a smooth bright metallic colour.
Sintered AlNiCo magnets are produced by pressing the desired mix of fine metal powder in a die that is very close to the final shape, and then sintering the pressed powder into a solid magnet.
